Neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) affect over 80% of individuals with dementia at some point in their illness and pharmacological therapies can play an important role in the management of these symptoms. Several medications have been evaluated for the management of specific NPS and there is a rapidly growing evidence base related to the efficacy and safety of medications for the management of NPS. This presentation will review best practices in the use of medications commonly used in management of NPS and review new medications that are being evaluated for the management of NPS in older adults with dementia.
