The Brain Health and Wellness Project!
The Brain Health and Wellness Project will provide interested clinicians with free training and easy-to-use paper tools and The Wellness App developed by the Fountain of Health Initiative.  These tools take only 5 minutes to use in routine care, have been field-tested by over 500 patients, and have been found to be effective with over 80% of patients partially meeting, meeting, or exceeding their health goal.

What kind of Clinician can do this work? Any kind of clinician! Psychiatrists, family doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, kinesiologists and any clinician in between!

Scientific literature tells us that even small, simple lifestyle changes in the right areas can help to prevent illness, and to improve health and well-being.

Did you know:
  • Light physical activity (15 min/day) can extend life expectancy by 3 years.
  • A secure relationship is the single most predictive health factor for well-being in late life; loneliness is a risk factor for death similar to smoking and obesity.
  • Combined lifestyle factors, including challenging your brain with new learning, reduces dementia risk by up to 35%
  • Positive thinking about aging can prolong life expectancy by up to 7.5 years.
 How to get involved:
  1. To receive free copy of The Health Behaviour Change Toolkit please register at: https://fountainofhealth.ca/wellness-project

*Veuillez nous envoyer un courriel à info@wellnessapp.ca si vous préférez assister à une session en français de ce webinaire qui sera offerte au cours des prochaines semaines.

Clinicians are invited to try out the tools with 5 or more patients or caregivers over the age of 40 years (without dementia) who are ready to set a health goal- then follow up a month later in person or by phone in the course of usual care to find out how it went, and return completed materials to us by the summer of 2019.

Please join this effort to bring effective brain health and wellness promotion into the frontlines of care in Canada! Register and share this information with colleagues, teams and networks who might be interested. For questions, contact the Project Manager, Daria Parsons at coordinator@wellnessapp.ca.

Regards,

Claire Checkland (Director of the CCSMH), and Drs. Kiran Rabheru, David Conn and Keri-Leigh Cassidy (Co-Principle Investigators for this project)
