This webinar will provide an overview of alcohol-related cognitive impairment (ARCI), including its epidemiology, pathophysiology, and clinical relevance to older adults with or at risk for neurocognitive disorders. Drawing on recent neuropsychological and neuroimaging research, it will explore how these cognitive patterns relate to structural differences in specific brain regions which may be particularly vulnerable to the effects of alcohol. Participants will gain a clearer framework for recognizing and characterizing ARCI and consider how emerging findings may inform clinical assessment and future research.

Dr. Ari Cuperfain is a staff geriatric psychiatrist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), a Consultant Psychiatrist at EHN Bellwood Health Services and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. He is the lead of the Older Adult Addiction Psychiatry Collaborative Care Clinic also at CAMH. He has clinical and research interests in substance use disorders in older adults with concurrent psychiatric and neurocognitive disorders. He has published scientific papers related to this topic with ongoing projects studying alcohol-related cognitive impairment in older adults.
