This presentation will provide an overview of the principles necessary to conduct a guided conversation with workplace colleagues and the families of older adults living with dementia regarding intimacy and sexual expression. Clinical assessment procedures will be reviewed. A range of clinical examples, case studies, and research literature will be discussed. There will be opportunity to ask questions and debate best practice strategies.

Dr. Lori Schindel Martin is an advanced practice nurse, educator, and mixed methods researcher. Lori’s research work focuses on applied clinical projects aimed at helping students, point-of-care staff, volunteers and families support older persons with dementia during episodes of challenging, responsive behavior. Her current projects include evaluating the Gentle Persuasive Approaches eLearning Program for acute care clinical staff and nursing students.
