This presentation will use cases to outline some of the challenges to care planning and decision making for patients with dementia in addition to other complex health issues. We will explore the unique needs of patients and their caregivers when dementia is present and how dementia and frailty interact to inform the decision making process.

Presenter(s):

Dr. Paige Moorhouse is an Associate Professor of Medicine (Geriatrics) at Dalhousie University. Dr. Moorhouse completed residency training in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at Dalhousie University in 2007. She completed a Master’s of Public Health at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health in 2008. Dr. Moorhouse draws on her clinical experience to inspire her research in frailty and aging, vascular cognitive impairment, driving and dementia, end-of-life care, executive function, and technology solutions for team-based care. Dr. Moorhouse is co-founder of the Palliative and Therapeutic Harmonization Program (PATH), which is a multi award winning program dedicated to helping patients and their caregivers make health care decisions that reflect individual values and quality of life.
