Sexuality and intimate expression are core features of the human experience which remain complex and deeply personal. Recognizing the important nature of these drives, their varied means of expression, and how they are impacted by aging and illness is a challenging prospect that often collides with caregiver’s preconceptions, misperceptions and personal values. This session is focused on exploring some of the realities and facts about sexuality in elderly patients, some of the barriers that aging patients face in supportive care environments, and the very real challenges faced by caregivers in dealing with both normal intimacy and illness-related behaviors with sexual context.
